Payment integration

Stripe API integration for card payments in your booking engine

Take card and wallet payments for flights, hotels and tours through your own Stripe account. Customers pay at checkout, 3-D Secure runs where the card needs it, and each payment, refund and payout is reconciled against the booking it belongs to.

  • Card and wallet checkout
  • 3-D Secure authentication
  • Refunds on cancelled bookings
  • Payouts to your own account

How it works

Stripe is a ready payment gateway in PHPTRAVELS

Stripe sits in the PHPTRAVELS payment gateway list next to PayPal, Adyen, bank transfer and the agent wallet. You connect your own Stripe account with its API keys, and the booking engine hands the payment step of checkout to Stripe. The money settles in your Stripe balance and pays out to your bank, while the booking, the charge and any refund stay linked in your admin. A step-by-step setup guide is published at docs.phptravels.com.

  1. Open or sign in to your Stripe account and copy the API keys
  2. Enable Stripe in the payment gateways section of the admin
  3. Paste the publishable and secret keys, starting with test keys
  4. Place a test booking to check checkout and 3-D Secure
  5. Switch to live keys and take real card payments

Payment flow

From checkout to payout with Stripe

What happens when a customer or agent pays for a booking by card through Stripe.

  1. Checkout

The customer reviews the booking and chooses to pay by card.

  2. Authenticate

3-D Secure runs when the card issuer requires it.

  3. Charge

Stripe confirms the payment and the booking is marked as paid.

  4. Confirm

The confirmation, invoice and voucher or ticket go to the customer.

  5. Refund

If the booking is cancelled, the refund is sent back to the card.

  6. Payout

Stripe pays the balance out to your bank account.

Payment methods

Stripe alongside your other ways to get paid

Stripe is one option in the payment gateway list, so you can switch on the methods each of your markets expects.

  • Stripe

Card and wallet payments through your own Stripe account, with refunds and payouts.

  • Other online gateways

PayPal, Adyen, Paystack, Cashfree, FlutterWave, Xmoney and further card and wallet gateways.

  • Wallet, bank and pay later

Agent wallet balance, bank transfer and pay later as separate options next to card payments.

Back office

Manage Stripe payments from one admin

Card payments, refunds and payment records sit in the same dashboard as your bookings, agents and suppliers.

  • Payment status

Filter bookings by paid, unpaid and refunded to see where every card payment stands.

  • B2B agents

Agents can pay for bookings by card through Stripe, or from their wallet balance where you enable it.

  • Invoices

Invoices show the amount, the payment method and the date the card was charged.

  • Email notifications

Booking and payment emails tell the customer when the card payment succeeds or a refund is issued.

  • Multi-currency

Show prices in the currencies your markets use and charge in a currency your Stripe account supports.

  • Setup guide

The Stripe guide on docs.phptravels.com walks through keys, settings and a first test payment.
